THE NEW CORPORATE BRANDING?
Corporate sport event sponsorship, and the resulting branding of sports stadiums is something we are all familiar with. Just how big this branding is, and how it is adapting with technology, is often overlooked by the average sportsfan.
HEINEKEN - ANTICIPATING THE TRAFFIC JAM
The recently altered Heineken advert on the M2 highway going past Newtown, when one first sees it, it doesn’t really seem like much of a big deal, unless you’re sitting in the (regularly) slow, slow traffic that goes past it, and you see that in fact it is no ordinary sign, but takes up three of the sides of the building that are closest to the highway, and that the image is viewed on one side, with the accompanying marketing slogan along the adjacent side of the building.
AIRPORT NAME FLIES HIGH ON NEW SIGNS - OR DOES IT?
The renaming of the OR Tambo airport started out as an extremely controversial idea with strong opinions regarding the change on both sides of the argument, much the same way as the Gautrain idea had a strong split either for or against. This was exacerbated by the fact that the original ‘Jan Smuts Airport’ was renamed specifically so that it did not represent the name of anyone with any kind of political connotations.

KFC allegedly became the world’s first brand visible from outer space on 14 November 2006. Measuring a record-breaking 26 670 square meters, KFC unveiled the new face for Colonel Sanders and marked the official debut of a massive global re-image campaign that will update 14 000-plus restaurants in over 80 countries over the next five years.

A group of designers and 3D animators in South Africa felt that the 2010 FIFA World Cup logo selection process and final logo was not up to scratch. So they have created a website that will give designers the opportunity that they were not given before. Check it out and submit your own logo for some cool prizes.

PANTONE UNVEILS NEW IDENTITY
Pantone, the world colour standard, has updated it's identity..
The new corporate identity is described by Pantone as a contemporary interpretation of the Pantone "chip", recoginised as the symbol of colour consistency. The change is away from the solid 'chip' logo to one that is a window on creativity - recoginising Pantone's role in the creative process.
RUSSIANS DESIGN A 2010 WORLD CUP ID
Park design, the cutting edge Russian design studio also created a face for the 2010 world cup.
They has some interesting ideas. Maybe a little afro-kitch for some of us, but they did a really nice job of presenting the idea and displaying how it can be rolled out. Nice Signage! Take a look at the website showcasing the identity. You can't fault them on the quality and professionalism.
NEW ROBERTSONS HERBS & SPICES CAPE TOWN OUTDOOR ‘HAIR-RAISING’
Outdoor featuring the irrepressible local comedian Soli Philander is catching motorists’ attention in various locations in Cape Town, the star’s home town. Developed by FCB Durban to complement the television commercial featuring Soli for the new range of seasoning blends from Robertsons Herbs & Spices, the billboard is 3.5m tall and 6.1m wide.

ADOBE ACROBAT 8
Major Acrobat update.
Acrobat offers some meaty updates to this package that are meant to make working with and creating PDFs a whole lot easier and more enjoyable. The focus is on the "five C's" (Control, Create, Collect, Collaborate and Combine). A new feature in version 8 is the ability for users to discuss and edits documents or other material in real-time conference using Adobe Connect. MULTIBANNER STAND
In just 5 easy steps one can unpack, assemble and erect the trendy MultiBanner stand. Simply Remove the Multi Banner Frame from the carry bag. TIPS AND TRICKS
DESIGNING VEHICLE WRAPS
Designing for vehicle wraps is not a simple matter of taking a design and slapping on the side of a van. The way that you start your design will effect the final production result. The recent Wrap to the Max vehicle wrap design competition highlighted several design requirements when designing a vehicle wrap. We discuss the common problems and the solutions or work-arounds in this article.
HOT TIP: RAW PHOTOS NEED SHARPENING:
RAW digital photos do need additional sharpening for print. The Unsharp Mask filter is the best tool for this. The Threshold setting is the key. At lower settings, nearly all pixels are sharpened, but at higher settings only ones with neighbouring pixels that differ in brightness (ie, edges) are affected. This leads to better results.
