BILLBOARDS ARE HAZARDOUS,
NEARLY EXTINCT AND GOOGLE WANTS IN
Safety experts are saying that the new wave of digital billboards add yet another distraction for drivers. While there are currently only about 400 digital billboards across the country, there may be as many as 4,000 within 10 years, according to the Outdoor Advertising Association of America. The billboard industry claims that the signs are not dangerous, but driving safety researchers say there isn't enough research to know for sure, and that digital signs may tax a driver's awareness more than static signs.

FXI CONCERNED OVER POLITICAL SUPPRESSION OF FREE EXPRESSION
According to the FXI, it is a trend that is disturbing: "It seems that politicians in such areas believe that the geographical remoteness of their areas from the larger metropolitan areas provides them with protection to be able to act unconstitutionally and illegally with impunity. This is a matter of grave concern."
ZICO ACQUIRES OUTDOOR NETWORK
Zungu Investments Company (Zico) has concluded a R140 million deal towards the acquisition of Outdoor Network, with Zico now holding a 50% controlling interest, Sanlam 40% and Outdoor Network's senior management 10%.
INCREASED INTEREST IN OUTDOOR MARKETING
"It is apparent that the out of home advertising industry is drawing more and more marketing categories into using the billboard media platform," says Mark Mac Donnell, Primedia Outdoor's sales and marketing director. "It is clear that there is an increased interest and demand for outdoor, and we are beginning to see the appearance of non-traditional outdoor brands."

LED STADIUM SIGNS CHANGING THE FACE OF SPORTS BRANDING
The days of Chromadek signs around sporting stadia are limited. LED signage enables a limitless range of movement, 3D images and colours
Rugby fans were first introduced to the moving LED SIGNS at the perimeter of the field, and up until recently it was largely at rugby events that the signs were viewed by large numbers of sports fans, although they were also in use for golf – where the images can be of photo or flat screen TV quality as a result of the difference in viewing distance - tennis, swimming, soccer and water polo.
