ALL SIGNS POINT TO ORLANDO FOR ISA INTERNATIONAL SIGN EXPO 2008
Brought to you by the International Sign Association, the largest sign show in the world is taking place in Orlando, Florida, March 26-29, 2008. More than 1,800 exhibit booths representing some 550 companies will bring the dynamic trade show floor to life.

PRINTED AND ORGANIC ELECTRONIC SIGNAGE TO GENERATE $2.5 BILLION (R18 billion) BY 2015
Signage manufactured using printed and organic electronics will generate $2.5 billion (about R18 billion) by 2015, according to a report by NanoMarkets. The market research study finds that electrophoretic displays, electrochromic displays, cholesteric liquid crystal, field-emission displays, OLEDs, electroluminescent materials and emissive carbon nanotube technology will impact a wide variety of signage markets ranging from large outdoor billboards to point-of-sale labels.

SAVING POWER ON ILLUMINATED BILLBOARDS WITH ADWRAPS
Outdoor media specialist company Adwraps wants to do their bit in helping SA and the electricity crisis at hand. As most of their billboards work on a timer device, allowing Adwraps to set what time they want their billboards to be switched on and off, if Eskom was to request that outdoor media and advertisers alike need to do their part in helping with load shedding, and saving power by using no power to illuminate their boards during ‘dead times’, then it is entirely plausible and possible.

CALDERA ANNOUNCES RECORD TURNOVER FOR 2008
Caldera Graphics continued to improve its turnover and earnings with revenue increasing 49% in 2007. Caldera significantly expanded its business volumes, with international demand for its products and services expanding to 56 different countries. The French RIP editor concentrated sales and marketing efforts on helping their distribution channels better market the products and give end-user the best support possible.  

DIGITAL SIGNAGE EXPO AND INTERACTIVE TECHNOLOGY EXPO LAS VEGAS CONVENTION CENTRE
This is the world's largest event dedicated exclusively to digital signage, interactive solutions and point-of-consumer media networks in retail, hospitality, financial and public spaces.

FESPA ANNOUNCES PROGRAMME FOR FIRST DIGITAL TEXTILE CONFERENCE IN GENEVA
FESPA has announced the conference programme for its first-ever Digital Textile Conference (31st March to 1st April 2008). Entitled ‘Digital Printing for Commercial Success,’ the conference will focus on both commercial and technical topics, examining market opportunities in the sector.

OCÉ PRINTS BOOK FOR CHARITY
The ‘House of Light’, Beth Uriel, houses 26 previously disadvantaged young men at Cape Town’s old Fire Station. The home, which is run on Christian principles, gives young men between the ages of 16 and 24 the opportunity to go back to school, live together as a family and go forward in their lives.

TEXTILE CONCRETE NOW USED FOR BLACK & WHITE PHOTOGRAPHIC SIGNS
Photography and today's cement started within a few years of each other in the early 1800's, now that black and white images can be reproduced directly in concrete, a novel way of decorating walls and buildings has been created.

HP ENTERS SERVICES MARKET WITH THE LAUNCH OF HP PRINT STATION
HP has launched the HP Print Station, marking a new era in digital printing that is also a first to market in South Africa. HP Print Stations are HP branded stores focusing on service and convenience that will primarily address small and medium enterprise customers and will cater for a wide range of printing applications.

The client needed an easy to install and update way-finding system that is also neatly designed and flexible Vista System was a perfect match.

KFC SELECTS WIRELESS RONIN'S DIGITAL SIGNAGE TO MOVE FORWARD WITH MARKET TEST
Wireless Ronin Technologies has announced that KFC has selected Wireless Ronin for the market test phase of its dynamic digital signage menu board programme.

MANCHESTER AIRPORT GETS 72-SCREEN DIGITAL SIGNAGE INSTALLATION
Pixel Inspiration has completed the hardware installation of a 72-screen digital signage network in Terminal 2 of Manchester Airport in England. The installation comprises a 116m run of 72 individual 2m (84in) diagonal rear projection screens, coupled with 72 Panasonic PTD 5700 dual bulb projectors positioned above the check in desks.

‘SAINT FRANCIS HEALTH SYSTEM CAMPUSES’ USE VISTA SYSTEM
Vista System International recently supplied a system for Claude Neon Federal Signs for the ‘Saint Francis Health System campuses’ in Tulsa, USA. The customer chose Vista System as they required a durable, vandalism resistant sign system that is also very easy to install and update.

POWER SAVING LED TECHNOLOGY
Show Off was recently commissioned to design and manufacture display stand for Revlon using LED technology. This resulted in a slim power saving unit that was installed at Clicks Sandton City in JHB and Clicks Summer Strand in Somerset West.

SOME MOERSE FUNNY STUFF!
PING PONG BALL LED DIFFUSER
Turns out that a Ping Pong ball makes a reasonable LED diffuser. Just drill a hole and insert the LED. Easy micro Locnar! With an RBG LED this could make a nice system indicator. Maybe build a strip of these indicators to make several status indicators. Each server gets a mini orb to show it’s online status, maybe each email account. How about a ball of balls, each with an RGB LED…
