POP-UP PRODUCTS OPENS IN JOHANNESBURG Pop-Up Products have officially opened a branch in Johannesburg. The new office, which features an impressive showroom, was added to the Cape Town and Nambian branches after the company picked up continuous enquiries from clients in Johannesburg.
IDC ACQUIRES EQUITY IN INNOVATIVE TAXI BROADCAST CHANNEL, REDEFINING DOMESTIC COMMUTING JOHANNESBURG The Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) has acquired equity in the innovative taxi television channel, redefining the domestic commuting in South Africa. Taxi media owner Massiv TV and the IDC have announced a R60 million equity transaction by the Corporation. The deal will see the IDC acquire 24% of Massiv TV with a further percentage interest banked for an empowerment suitor.
Massiv TV retains 51% of the business.
PACKAGING DESIGN CHALLENGE WINNERS Nampak and the Design Indaba have announced the winning entries in the Packaging Design Challenge. The entries, submitted via YouTube, were assessed by the judging panel over a period of two days, using criteria such as manufacturing feasibility to validate the submitted designs.
IFRA COMPETITION TO HIGHLIGHT CROSS-MEDIA BRANDING, DESIGN The objective of the fourth XMA Cross Media Awards is to present the best examples of design in print that combine different print and digital (online and mobile) channels to get their brand across, announced IFRA, the worldwide research and service organisation for the news publishing industry, earlier this week.
3.2% GROWTH FOR AUSTRALIA’S OUTDOOR INDUSTRY IN 2008 The outdoor media industry in Australia grew 3.2 per cent in 2008 as net revenue reached $453.8 million (+/- R2.9 Billion) compared to $439.9 (+/- R2.8 Billion) in 2007. According to OMA CEO, Helen Willoughby, the industry achieved a very strong first half followed by a weaker second half.

BILLBOARDS, A BOOMING BUSINESS DURING ELECTION CAMPAIGNS These days, billboard advertising is one of the hottest sectors of the marketing industry and a booming and visible brand promotion business, particularly during the election campaign period. What was once made famous by the Egyptians over 3000 years ago is still a popular form of advertising today.

DIGITAL SIGNAGE: THE BILLBOARDS OF THE FUTURE The first example of a ‘billboard’ appeared in an American railway station in 1835 and by 1870 three hundred companies existed to paint adverts and put them in the public eye. Today, technology has enabled companies to advertise without having to rely on traditional paper and glue.
LAMAR TESTING SOLAR-POWERED DIGITAL BILLBOARDS Lamar Advertising is testing a new digital billboard technology that could provide a strong alternative to the digital billboards populating the world. Developed by U.K. and Israel-based magink, the proprietary digital technology uses solar power and light-reflecting digital ink instead of light-emitting diodes.
