Ipex 2010 continues to attract important global print industry suppliers wanting to make their debut at the international event. Over 22% of the current 55,000 square metres of floor space sold have been allocated to exhibitors who are occupying entire stands for the first time.

BBI INFLATABLE DISPLAYS OPENS 1ST OFFICE IN AFRICA
Billboard Boats Inc. (bbi) has announced that it has appointed BBi South Africa, a division of Big Events 365, the official exclusive distributor of bbi products in South Africa. BBi South Africa, based in Durban, is the first bbi associate office located on the continent of Africa. bbi’s patented amphibious advertising billboards arrived in South Africa merely weeks ago and have already generated a keen interest from both national and local advertisers.

Going green means living with an attitude of respect, foresight and integrity towards others and especially our children and our children’s children. It means that we do not leave the earth in the state that we found it; instead we strive to improve it so that others can call it their home. ICON MEDIA AND OROS CONCENTRATE ON FAMILIES IN CHECKERS AND PICK N PAY OUTLETS
Concentrate juice manufacturer Oros is once again running a campaign with branded shopping cart experts Icon Media to communicate to grocery buying parents and their family. This second consecutive deal secures one of Icon Mall’s packages for the advertiser and provides Oros exclusive exposure in Checkers Hypers and Pick n Pay outlets countrywide. 

PRIMALL MEDIA ENSURES CLINIQUE CONTINUES TO DOMINATE KEY MALL SPACE
Clinique, a successful and active advertiser in the shopping mall environment for the last three years, has inked the renewal of its twelve-month contract with Primedia Unlimited subsidiary Primall Media, a media owner that continues to revolutionise the pristine mall advertising environment.

PRIMALL MEDIA TAKES ABSOLUT OWNERSHIP OF THE V & A WATERFRONT
Having just taken over Absolut Vodka, the largest selling premium vodka brand in the world, Pernod Ricard signed its first deal with mall advertising specialists Primall Media to create heightened brand awareness during two of Absolut Vodka’s key retail months. 

ARE YOUR MEDIA CHOICES IMMUNE AGAINST ECONOMIC CHANGES? – OUTDOOR IS IMMUNE
If the current economic changes have a severe impact on media consumption you will have to rethink your media choice. Which media will be immune to the looming changes? You do not want to read in next year's AMPS that you have made the wrong decision this year. The World Advertising Research Centre has identified Outdoor Advertising as the most stable medium in economic downturn, with online media as the biggest winner.  

CHINA'S FIRST BUILDING WRAP
Beijing Feimeng Advertising Graphics Co. Ltd, a professional graphics company founded in 1994, recently completed work on one of the first building wraps in China. The building wrapped by graphics was in the Wangfujing area of Beijing, which is the central shopping area and adjacent to the heart of China's political centre. The wrap was completed within 30 days and was 35,000sqm in size. Beijing Feimeng Advertising Graphics Co. Ltd, printed this low-cost building wrap on its HP Scitex XP5300.  

SABC'S 2010 MARKETING CAMPAIGN TAKES TO THE ROAD
SABC, as the official broadcaster for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, has embarked on an awareness campaign to promote its involvement in the sporting event. SABC Content Enterprises, together with The MediaShop, has compiled a holistic marketing drive, which sees Joburg's Metrobus selected as the premier alternative medium.

ARLON SPONSORS TRACTOR TRAILER TRUCK WRAP FOR THE NASCAR PREMIER OF THE AUTO CLUB SPEEDWAY
Arlon sponsored the NASCAR Premier of the Auto Club Speedway wrapping 10 tractor trailer trucks to promote the NASCAR race in Southern California. The trucks were wrapped by The Global Group located in Southern California using Arlon’s DPF 6000X, a 2 mil cast film with X-scape Technology and Series 3220 Overlaminate. The trucks are out on the road promoting the NASCAR Race in California that happens once a year.  

ANOTHER NAIL ON ALCOHOL ADVERTISING IS PROPOSED
The Cape Times, in an article published on 16 March 2009, reported that a draft bylaw on alcohol and substance abuse proposes the formation of an action committee of experts, people in business, government representatives, and others to help combat drug and alcohol abuse. It also proposes conditions that would tighten the running of businesses and entertainment venues that sell alcohol and prohibit tenants of council-owned properties from using these as drug dens or shebeens report the Cape Times.

OS WATERTIGHT
Touch Of Magic has announced the new OS WATERTIGHT transfer film, a product developed for printing onto all waterproof fabrics such as Dri-Mac rain jackets, umbrellas, tents, gazebos, sails, etc. Waterproof fabrics have always posed a problem for screen printers as special and expensive inks have to be used. OS WATERTIGHT now enables you to cut your customer's decal first and then Heat Press it onto the fabric. OS WATERTIGHT will be launched at Sign Africa Durban, 25 – 26 March at the Touch of Magic stand, number B14.  

NO MORE CHERRY PICKERS
The out-of-home advertising market has received a major boost with the arrival of a new banner mounting system that does away with the hassles and hazards of using cherry pickers to attach banners to street poles. Out-Stand-In, a Sydney-based family company specialising in sign stands and pole banner systems, has secured worldwide patents for its user-friendly Bannerconda and Bannerjib raise-and-display systems, which could see shorter display cycles become a reality.

National Flag have introduced a unique design with the new Star Flag, featuring free rotation with three large display panels. The Star Flag has a stainless steel axel with a patented magnetic suspension, mounted onto a pole. It offers three sides for exposure and has large area for branding.

DIGITAL INDUSTRY TO OLD MEDIA: GROW SOME NUTS
The head of Australia’s digital media industry body has told old media, ‘Grow some nuts’. Speaking at the Australian Interactive Media Industry Association Awards, president Guy Gadney - until recently GM of digital services at ACP and Nine - told the audience.    

NEW 82-INCH (2M) LCD FROM NEC
NEC has announced its largest LCD panel yet -- an 82-inch (2m) panel, the MultiSync LCD8205. NEC says that this is a professional grade flat panel monitor that can be installed in either portrait or landscape, and they can be tiled together to create a video wall up to four displays high and four displays wide for a max of 328 inches (8.3m) diagonal.   

EPSON’S 3LCD PROJECTOR TECHNOLOGY CELEBRATES ITS 20TH ANNIVERSARY
Leading projector manufacturer Epson, has recently announced the 20th anniversary of its 3LCD projector technology, marking two decades of innovation since the first 3LCD projector was launched in 1989.  

EIKI'S BULLDOG APPROACH
Japan based company Eiki Industrial Co. Ltd. has not received the news that the economy is struggling. The 55-year old company that revolutionised the 16mm projector has burst back onto the scene by entering the digital signage industry.

X-BOARD KRAFT USED FOR THE SOUTH EXHIBITION AT DESIGN INDABA 2009
The brainchild of Design Indaba, the SOUTH exhibition award and documentary is a celebration of the organic emergence of a new creative ethos in South Africa. In recognition of this exciting development, Design Indaba, together with Creative Circle and the Loerie Awards, established the Creative Alliance and founded SOUTH, sponsored by the SABC. The award was open to creatives across all industries. 

X-BOARD USED FOR MINING INDABA 2009
Graphic Laminates, a South African printing and converting specialist based in Cape Town, recently used X-Board to produce several applications for the Mining Indaba 2009, which was held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) from 9-12 February 2009.

With a cargo ship load of various portable sound systems and accessories on the market, the battle for the funkiest design has been fiercely fought for a few years now. One design that certainly stands out is the transparent ghetto-blaster from Nokia.

Google Vision provides the user with a truly unique information hub by combining GPS, OLED technology and advanced image recognition in the form of a retractable screen device.
