CAPE TOWN MAKES WAY FOR SIGN AFRICA 2009! 
For the fourth year running, Sign Africa returns to the Western Cape for a two-day exhibition at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC). Providing an ideal platform for the sign, design, graphics and marketing industries, Sign Africa Cape Town will feature the latest developments in signage, screenprint, graphics, point-of-sale and large format digital printing. The event takes place from Wednesday, 20 May to Thursday 21 May 2009 and entrance is free. 

ANC IN CHINESE T-SHIRT ROW
The textile industry - one of the hardest hit manufacturing sectors in the sagging economy - has been dealt another blow with T-shirt orders for the ANC worth R15-20 million being given to Chinese manufacturers. At least 850 000 shirts bearing ‘Made in China’ labels and emblazoned with various ANC slogans - including one promising ‘jobs for all’ - have flooded South Africa before the April 22 elections.  

NEW SHOW OFF AGENT IN NAMIBIA
Show Off Display Systems have appointed Image Print cc as there new agent in Namibia. ‘With our expansion into Africa we had ear marked Namibia as one of the countries that showed a lot of potential,’ comments Sean Gouws, Show Off Sales Manager in South Africa. ‘As one of our clients we offered Image Print sole distribution for all our products.’  

NEW OUTDOOR ADVERTISING COMPANY SET TO ‘GREEN’ THE LOCAL MARKET
Overpass Outdoor Advertising, a BEE-compliant company based in South Africa, with offices located in Durban and Johannesburg, is a pioneer in combining generation of green energy through wind turbines with outdoor advertising. This technology, found in the company’s BlueTerra Advertising Turbines, can be installed in urban and rural areas wherever energy is required and/or outdoor advertising is desirable and appropriate. 

INFLATABLE BILLBOARDS ATTRACT MEGA ATTENTION
Bbi Display System’s inflatable billboards captured considerable attention at the recent Mega Media Expo held on the 4th and 5th of March at the Sandton Convention Centre and the Sign Africa Expo on the 25th and 26th March at the ICC Durban. Key individuals from the media industry where pleased to learn of a new and unique medium to consider in their advertising mix for clients. ‘The response we received was overwhelming’, says Jacques Van Schalkwyk, CEO of bbi SA.  

2009 ISA INTERNATIONAL SIGN EXPO A HUGE SUCCESS – POINTS TO A STRONG SIGN INDUSTRY
The International Sign Association (ISA) is calling its 2009 International Sign Expo ‘a resounding success,’ noting that it was their best show ever, despite facing what are daunting economic odds.  

PLASTIC WORLD TO DISTRIBUTE CURV POSTER FRAMES
Plastic World has announced that they will now be stocking a range of CURV poster frame systems. The company will stock and distribute the basic range to start with. Sizes include: A4, A3, A2, A1 and A0.  

STUDY FINDS PIRATES BUY 10X MORE MUSIC ONLINE THAN NON-PIRATES
A study from the BI Norwegian School of Management has found that those who download free music from services like BitTorrent are also the biggest legitimate consumers of downloadable music.

The new BEN 10 Alien Force video game is stopping motorists, be they 'gamers' or non-gamers, in their tracks on major routes in and out of Sandton. Attention grabbing, the advertising creative is screening on the Primedia Outdoor Digital Network of innovative LED billboards. 

ACTIVATION EXPERT HEADS UP MALL ACTIVE
Primedia Unlimited’s newest subsidiary specialising in mall activation, Mall Active, has appointed Travis Brown as Head of Activations for the sister company to Primall Media and Primedia Lifestyle. Brown will strategise and manage all brand campaigns in the Group’s countrywide, premium shopping mall network. 

ESKOM FIRST TO UTILISE WASHROOM STORYBOARD ADVERTISING
Not only will Eskom be advertising in washrooms for the first time, but its deal signed with washroom advertising specialist TLC (The Letter Corporation) and The Mediashop presents a pioneering media booking which utilises three consecutive washroom slots. The innovative use of TLC’s washroom Ad Mirror medium allows successive advertising to create a singular storyboard message.  

PNET TAKES THE POLITICAL PARTY TO THE POLES
Online job portal and e-recruitment portal PNet has capitalised on SA’s current political media frenzy with a tongue-in-cheek Illuminated Street Pole Ads campaign that sees ‘parties’ promising a better life for all. The campaign draws a parallel between office politics and the national elections; addressing general dissatisfaction in the workplace with the opportunity to find a better job with PNet.

CABANA SHADE GAZEBO
The new Cabana Shade Gazebo is available in two sizes (3m x 3m and 4m x 4m) and is the most economical gazebo for its size. The aluminium frame is robust and the waterproof polyester fabric (with or without the triangular corners) can be custom-branded (either digitally or silkscreen-printed).  

SPEED BAR
The Speed Bar is a mobile vending solution with five different applications for beverage vending. The Speed Bar is a generic trolley that can be retrofitted with any of the five sets of equipment, to facilitate pouring (or any other application you see fit for your vending solution). For branding, custom moulded colours are available. It uses Interchangeable ‘kwik-klik’ branding frames on three sides. 

ADOBE AGGRESSIVELY PROMOTING FLASH FOR HDTVS & DVRS
To date, Adobe's efforts to push Flash to TVs have passed mostly under the radar, and haven't netted many actual products. This is about to change, according to a forthcoming announcement from the company. 

10M ROLL-LENGTHS OF MEDIA NOW AVAILABLE
Plastic World, local distributors of a wide range of plastic sheet, rod, tube and finished goods for the signage and display industry in South Africa, have announced the immediate availability of short role digital media. Media can now be purchased in specially cut 10m lengths.

Whoever uses renewable energy should also advertise it. Human-created climate change is not only an increasingly popular topic in the public arena, but it is also more and more noticeable to the individual. According to the newest studies, and against the backdrop of the rising importance of this topic, the environmental expectations of a company's customers, co-workers and business partners continues to grow.

TESCO’S DIGITAL SIGNAGE NETWORK IN POLAND LOOKS TO THE FUTURE
DDS Poland, a Scala Certified Partner in Poland, has supplied Atvertin with operational and content management solutions to develop and manage an extensive, scalable 52-store proof-of-concept digital signage network for Tesco in Poland, which launched in September 2008.

HP has announced that Cover-Up Limited, based in Dublin, Ireland, has used its HP Scitex XL1500 Printer to produce a building wrap measuring 4408sqm on behalf of its client JK Signage. 

FREDRIX® PRINT CANVAS FEATURED AT DISNEY EARTH PREMIERE
Fredrix® Print Canvas has continued its partnership with world-renowned environmental artist Wyland by unveiling a monumental work of art for Earth Day inspired by DisneyNature’s landmark first film, ‘Earth’. The 372sqm (4,000sqft) image was revealed at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, California on April 18th for the film’s U.S. domestic premiere.
