STARCOM WINS ENGEN AFRICA BUSINESS 
Starcom SA has been selected as Engen Africa’s strategic media partner to launch the local petroleum producers’ first service station footprint in Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Engen has acquired all Shell Service Stations in the DRC and will, with the expertise of Starcom, initiate the first phase of the roll out programme. 

EPSON PARTNERS WITH JUSTPOS TO EXTEND REACH INTO HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY
Epson SA has strengthened its distribution base into the South African hospitality sector with the appointment of JustPoS as a specialist partner and Epson Express Centre for Epson point of sale (PoS) printers in South Africa.  

OS FLEX SCORED BIG WITH THE DLF INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE
Touch of Magic was pleased to report that a number of their clients were able to assist many of the teams during the recent DLF IPL tournament with their shirts. The OS Flex metallic colours were particularly popular for the player’s names and numbers. OS FLEX is a heat transferable textile vinyl that can be cut on all makes and models of vinyl cutters (plotters) and is ideal for printing onto team kits, overalls, etc.  

JUNE 1ST NEW YORKER COVER DRAWN ENTIRELY ON THE IPHONE
Artist Jorge Colombo took about an hour to fingerpaint an intricate Times Square scene on his iPhone using Brushes, a $4.99 (+-R40) iPhone drawing app. Now, it's the June 1st cover for The New Yorker. 

AMASA CALLS FOR COPORATES TO SUPPORT INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT BY RENEWING ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP

ComutaNet has taken ownership of what it believes to be the largest billboard in the southern hemisphere. ComutaNet has branded what it reckons to be the largest billboard in the Southern Hemisphere. At 600sqm, the First National Bank (FNB) wall-mounted billboard, situated at Johannesburg Park Station, has surpassed the Coca-Cola billboard in Sydney, and that makes it the largest billboard in the Southern Hemisphere the agency says.

DIGITAL SIGNAGE BEST PRACTICE AWARD: A PRIZE WITH AN IMPACT
In 2007 it had its premiere, and at viscom düsseldorf 2009 it will now be granted for the third time: the Digital Signage Best Practice Award. ‘Our intention in creating this award was to improve the acceptance of what was still quite a new medium and at the same time to encourage more companies to expand their portfolios to include the digital signage segment,’ explains viscom Director Petra Lassahn. This was a valid approach – the award now meets with a high degree of acceptance in the industry and acts as an additional advertisement and business promoter for the companies that receive it. 

DID THEY FORGET TO COME? INFOCOMM BOOTH IS REDEFINED
Digital signage company .advancedMethod decided to approach June’s InfoComm, held this year in Orlando, Florida, a little differently than all the rest. Instead of flying a large Seattle-based team and booth materials across the country creating a massive carbon footprint, .advancedMethod has decided not to attend InfoComm at all; at least not in the traditional sense.    

AMERICANAIRLINES ARENA UNVEILS THREE-STORY HIGH MIAMIMEDIAMESH DIGITAL SCREEN
The AmericanAirlines Arena has unveiled the MiamiMediaMesh digital screen, a first-of-its-kind 315 square metres (3,400 square foot), energy-efficient digital media façade. AA Arena worked with Boston-based A2aMEDIA to create the Mediamesh display. Mediamesh is a high-grade architectural woven stainless steel mesh that is embedded with linear tubes filled with LED nodes that provide ‘pixels’ for displaying high-resolution digital imagery.

XANITA’S RECYCLED KRAFT FIBRE BOARD DELIVERS SHOP FITTER AN ARRAY OF BENEFITS VERSUS MDF  
A major retail chain store in South Africa recently constructed ten bulkheads, each seven metres long, using eight sheets of 16mm gauge X-Board Kraft per bulkhead. Over 95 additional bulkheads are being constructed for the client, totaling 1700 boards in all.
