It's up and running! The first and easiest round of the Wrap2theMax design competition has been completed. This is the first round of 12 rounds that will see the winning designer walk away with an amazing cash prize. Not only designers can compete, but also brand owners and managers can participate. 

Starcom negotiates R1.2 million free exposure for Salvation Army
Media agency Starcom has negotiated free advertising space to the value of R1.2 million from South Africa’s largest media owners for non-profit organisation Salvation Army and its Human Trafficking campaign. Starcom’s directive was to assist in facilitating the campaign to urgently highlight the impact of human trafficking leading up to 2010.

5M X 80M BILLBOARD AT PARK STATION

Hexis, the manufacturer of self-adhesive vinyl with headquarters in France, announced the launch of a new printable cast vinyl film for wall graphics. The VCSR100WG1 is designed for direct application onto brick, concrete or plaster walls.  

SHOW OFF HAVE LAUNCHED THE NEW “BOX FRAME”
This 32mm extrusion is perfect for branding. The frames come complete with Correx backing and a non-reflective overlay. The Box Frame can be made up to any specific size that the customer requests. Available in natural anodised, white and black. Exotic colours on request.  

CONNECT-IT – HEAVY DUTY RANGE
Connect-It is a Weld-free connection system for outdoor and indoor signage. There are various angular configurations for different applications. These Connectors are Durable, Paintable, U.V. HEXIS DIGITAL PRINTING GLOSSARY
Hexis announce the latest release of their popular Digital Printing Glossary. The 2009 edition of the booklet explains the technical jargon relating to digital printing, colour management, inkjet media and materials targeting non-specialists and those who want to familiarise themselves with the specialist jargon of inkjet printing for signage and visual communication.

INKJET PRINTABLE BALLOONS COME TO THE MARKET
Utilising just a standard inkjet printer, print service providers are now able to create personalised balloons which Power Digital say are great for corporate events, promotions, functions, parties, gift ideas and more.  

8-MIL FILM DESIGNED FOR TRADESHOW-GRAPHIC APPLICATIONS
Lexjet Corp. has presented Platinum exhibit film, an 8-mil, white, polyester media designed for varied display applications. The substrate contains an internal blockout layer, which enhances opacity, and provides a quick-drying, satin finish to facilitate production speed. The film matches dye and pigment-based, aqueous inks, which, according to the company, dry instantly on the film’s surface. Lexjet recommends pairing the media with its PreLume DisplayFlex overlaminate.  

ARLON VEHICLE-WRAP MEDIA
Arlon (Santa Ana, CA) is debuting DPF 6000XRP, a 2-mil, gloss, cast film that incorporates the company’s X-scape technology. The tinted, bubble-release film offers a permanent, pressure-sensitive adhesive with enhanced repositionability and a facestock liner with a lay-flat liner designed for large-format printing. According to the company, the adhesive provides excellent opacity and conformability, as well as easy installation and outdoor durability up to seven years (unprinted – printed durability depends upon the ink system used).

AV PLANNERS ADDS TO THE HISTORY OF LIBERTY ISLAND
Visitors were once again welcome to climb to the crown of the Statue of Liberty this past Fourth of July, after it was closed for nearly eight years in the wake of September 11th. There were some new additions to the grounds around the statue— digital displays— just in time for this momentous occasion.

The Sowetan newspaper has something up its sleeve – a new look and feel – which it wants to share with the whole world via a ten double-decker bus fleet.

INCREDIBLE BUS ADVERTISING BRINGS INDIA TO JOBURG
The Indian Tourism Department pulled out all the stops to create visually stunning busses; depicting the Taj Mahal, distinctive landscape and culture that many attest to being simply incredible and uniquely Indian.

MUTOH ZEPHYR UV PRINTER IN ACTION FOR WIDE FORMAT RIGID BOARD PRINTING OUTDOOR FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITIONS
On the occasion of the cultural and musical festival Theater aan Zee, to be held in Oostende, from July 30th until August 8th, wide format inkjet printer manufacturer Mutoh Europe accepted the challenge to digitally reproduce more than 50 unique fine art photographs for two outdoor photo exhibitions along the seaside.

SUSTAINABLE BOARDS USED FOR NEW YORK PERFUME EXHIBIT
Xanita’s X-Board was used to create an arresting visual fest for Aftel’s “Living Perfume: the Natural Alchemy of Mandy Aftel” exhibit held at Henri Bendel in New York. The concept of the campaign incorporated a uniquely designed exhibit with, most importantly, a green footprint.

A DYNAMIC LOOK: TALEXX LEDS FOR ACCENT LIGHTING
The French La Poste Groupe has undergone an image make-over and now styles itself as dynamic, modern and clearly structured. It therefore wanted to update its logos and lettering to match this new image. With their special ability to backlight complex contours and provide uniform illumination over coloured surfaces, TridonicAtco’s TALEXXchain LED modules contribute to the brightness and attraction of the new La Poste signage.

AIRSPACE INFLATABLES FLYING HIGH           
Inflatable media has become a significant player in the field of outdoor advertising. Airspace Inflatables manufactures all the traditional inflatable products including blimps, dirigibles and balloons, as well as inflatable billboards (Portaboards®). One of their most memorable products, featured at the closing ceremony of the IPL games earlier this year, included the 6m diametre helium light balloons, used for the first time in a South African production. These products are 100% SA manufactured in Kommetjie, Cape Town.
