WRAP2THEMAX WINNING ENTRY FOR AUGUST 2009
The winner of the August 2009 round of the Wrap2theMax vehicle wrap design competition is local designer Marcel du Preez. He wins this round based on his imaginative submission for the 350.org movement for the international day of climate control. The September round is now open for entries and there are only three weeks to go. 

PERSPEX SA WINS COVETED SIGN AFRICA STAND AWARD
For the second year running, Perspex SA has walked away with honours in the Sign Africa Stand Awards. At this year’s event, Perspex SA outdid themselves, scoring a 96% - the highest total of points out of all the stands judged at the show and winning Best Stand in the Maizey Village. 

MAIZEY VILLAGE: AN OUTSTANDING SUCCESS AT SIGN AFRICA 09
The Maizey Village at Sign Africa Johannesburg 2009 created a regular buzz of excitement for the duration of the show, receiving critical acclaim from both visitors and the independent stand judges, for its superb marketing concept and admirable design elements. 

SOUTH AFRICANS CONFIDENT OF 2010 SUCCESS
By: Issa Sikiti da Silva Despite negative reports about the 2010 FIFA World Cup's ‘mediocre' marketing, an independent study has found that 89% of South Africans are well aware of the grandeur of the event and are confident that the soccer feast will be a resounding success, as the focus now shifts to the final draw to be held in Cape Town on 4 December 2009.

The Advertising Benevolent Fund announced the change of its name to ABF and introduced its new logo last week to the industry. The name change reflects the fact that the organisation has extended its services beyond advertising to the media and marketing industries as well.

KEN VAREJES AND INM OUTDOOR SCOOPS MOST AWARDS
Out of Home media received two prizes at the recently held MOST Awards. Ken Varejes, CEO of Primedia Unlimited, received the Sales Legend Award and INM Outdoor the award for the best sales team in the Out of Home segment.

“GOD LOVES SEX” CHURCH BILLBOARD BANNED
A GodFirst Church billboard containing the phrase “God Loves Sex” will have to be removed from William Nicol Drive, Bryanston, after complaints were lodged by members of the public, the Advertising Standards Authority of South Africa (ASA) ruled last Friday.

‘The entries received thus far for the OHMSA Awards have been most exciting and the creatives were the best seen in many years. Competition is going to be very stiff, but we are looking forward to receiving an unprecedented number of entries before the closing date. 

TLC LAUNCHES NEW FMCG SAMPLING INNOVATION
Primedia Unlimited subsidiary TLC has introduced another innovation to its stable of captivating washroom advertising. The new aptly named ‘Tester Units’ are attached to TLC’s trademark A4 washroom frames, enabling them to house one sampling product. The units are strategically installed at basins and mirrors, giving consumers an instant opportunity to sample aerosols, liquid hand soap, shaving gel and virtually any bottled personal product.  

VITAL HEALTH CHOOSES TLC FOR CRANBERRY COMPLEX CAMPAIGN, BRANDS PLANET FITNESS GYM BALLS
With a call to action for female consumers to ‘Relieve Yourself’, pharmaceutical manufacturer Vital Health has for the first time enlisted the assistance of TLC.  The washroom advertising company was briefed to promote Vital’s Cranberry Complex urinary tract campaign as well as deploy an awareness building exercise involving the branding of all Planet Fitness gym balls. 

NU METRO, PRIMALL MEDIA PROMOTE BIG NIGHTS IN FOR UNDER R100    
Promoting its DVD’s retailing for under R100, Nu Metro Home Entertainment has joined forces with mall advertising experts Primall to take advantage of the high foot traffic in South Africa’s malls, and the knock on effect of mall advertising and retail purchases.   

TLC AND TWINSAVER PROMOTE A TISSUE FOR EVERY SEASON TO SA WOMEN
Nampak has again chosen TLC as its advertising partner of choice. The new contact commissions a national washroom door wrap campaign for tissue brand Twinsaver. Quirky messages “Crying is a way of healing, but don’t let it mess with your make up“ and “Don’t cry for a man who’s left you, the next one might miss your gorgeous smile” are bound to get huge exposure and attention.

WORLD'S FIRST PRESSURE SENSITIVE LAMINATE THAT ADHERES TO UV CURABLE INKS
Seal Graphics have introduced a new high-performance, pressure-sensitive, solvent-based laminate. Seal UV-Sol Sandtex is a tough sand-textured, non-reflective surface that offers maximum protection from scuffing, marking and UV rays. The advanced UV absorbers enable Seal and Australian distributor Starleaton, to guarantee serviceable life of three years for outdoor and five years for indoor graphics.  

PARADIGM IMAGING INTRODUCES THE ULTRALITE BANNER WALL
Paradigm Imaging Group has introduced the Ultralite Banner Wall. It is a solution for tradeshow booth graphics, POP displays, or in-store promotions. INTERACTIVE COCA-COLA VENDING MACHINE WINS GOLD AT CANNES LIONS ADVERTISING FESTIVAL
A new interactive Coca-Cola vending machine with a large format touch-screen and Bluetooth capabilities took home the Gold Lion in the Point of Sale category at the 2009 Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival. The festival, widely considered as the world’s premier showcase for excellence in advertising and design, took place in June in Cannes, France.  

NCR ANNOUNCES FIRST DEPLOYMENT OF ITS CURBSIDE AIRLINE CHECK-IN KIOSKS
According to an announcement from NCR Corp., US Airways will be the first airline to deploy NCR's TouchPort 80 outdoor passenger check-in kiosk. NCR says the airline will deploy 54 of the kiosks in 15 U.S. cities and St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.

When progressive dental practice, The Kensington Dental & Smile Spa, moved recently to a new address in fashionable Kensington High Street, it found it would not only be occupying a traditional retail unit with a large shop-front, but also be positioned opposite one of the Capital’s most prominent hotels. The footfall was astonishing.

APN Outdoor, Australia's leading provider of outdoor advertising, today launched a large format static digital billboard at Sydney Domestic Airport, the first of its kind at any Australian airport external.

ECO-FRIENDLY XANITA IS WORLD CUP SUPPLIER OF CHOICE
ECO-friendly company Xanita has invested about R50m to manufacture lightweight furniture board materials to be used during the 2010 Soccer World Cup. CEO James Beattie said environmental entrepreneurs at Xanita looked at bales of recycled paper waste, and saw an opportunity for sustainable, green board material for environmentally friendly applications. He said Fifa would be using Xanita products for convertible furniture systems that include desks, conference tables and bar tables.

Vista System International recently supplied a unique and flexible illuminated curved menu system to ‘Big Advert Signs’ for installation at Anima - a pizza and pasta take away restaurant located in Edinburgh, Scotland.
