THE OHMSA AWARDS 2009
Now in its third year, OHMSA is calling for creative entries in the 2009 OHMSA Awards. Aimed at awarding local creative talent, the OHMSA awards seeks to promote an appreciation of excellence in outdoor advertising. The medium itself has grown year on year, with a plethora of creative work which is highly visible and truly deserves the recognition that an OHMSA Award gives.  

FANTASTIC SUCCESS FOR HIFLEX USERS IN THIS YEAR'S CIP4 INNOVATION AWARDS
The CIP4 Organisation has been presenting annual innovation awards (CIPPI Awards) for over 5 years to companies in the international graphic arts industry. They honour innovative solutions in the fields of networking and process automation. With two first prizes and one second prize in this prestigious competition, HIFLEX users have once again received considerable recognition for their accomplishments in automation and integration.

The association of the two technologies will guarantee for production printing fast and reliable reproduction of files in the Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF), including complex images and transparencies.  

COREL ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF CORELDRAW® INTERNATIONAL DESIGN CONTEST
Corel Corporation has announced the winners of the CorelDRAW® International Design Contest. Submissions were received from users in more than sixty countries reflecting the product’s global popularity and appeal. Introduced as part of the company’s Twentieth Anniversary Celebration for CorelDRAW Graphics Suite, the contest was designed to celebrate the diversity, creativity and talent of the global CorelDRAW user community.

GOVERNMENT OUTRAGES TANZANIAN OUTDOOR ADVERTISING COMPANIES
The decision made by Tanroads (Tanzania Roads – an agency within the Ministry of Infrastructure Development in Tanzania) to appoint two local outdoor companies with exclusive rights for outdoor development across all regions on road reserve, has resulted in the order for all other industry players to remove their billboards from these areas.

FLEXCON PERFORATED WINDOW FILM
FLEXcon is introducing SeeThru-Sign® (STSWBF7030) a 7.2-mil, black/white, 30%-perforated, window film. The media features a removable adhesive and is backed with a perforated, 40kg (90-lb.) liner that’s backed with a clear sheet liner. According to the company, the increased image area supports colour reproduction while adding security by providing less exterior visibility. The company sells the media in 1.3m (53in.)-wide rolls, and offers quantities of less than three rolls or 45m (150ft.)-long rolls through Lexjet Corp.  

NEKOOSA DEBUTS REVOLUTIONARY ADHESIVE VINYL FOR DIGITAL PRINTING
Nekoosa Coated Products has just introduced ThermaTac, a repositionable vinyl designed especially for the high heat processes of toner-based digital printing. Available in white and frosty clear with removable or ultra-removable adhesives, the new ThermaTac product line suits a wide range of indoor and outdoor applications from retail POP to bumper stickers. This innovative vinyl is ideal for on-demand, short-run digital jobs on most 20+ ppm (pages per minute) toner-based digital printers.  

PHILIPS LAUNCHES GROUNDBREAKING WHITE LED ARCHITECTURAL FLOODLIGHTS
Demonstrating that LED lighting is now viable for large-scale exterior applications, Philips Color Kinetics has announced two new floodlights with unprecedented light output of more than 8,500 lumens—a first in high-quality exterior LED floodlighting.  

SYTECH SUPPLIES LAUNCHES CADFLEXX IN NEON COLOURS
Sytech Supplies has been hard at work bringing several new products to market for South African signage and graphics professionals. One of those products is neon colour CADFlexx, a PVC based CAD-cut material for plotter cutting and used mainly in decorating and customising of sports apparel. CadFlexx (popularly known as Videoflex) has been adopted by sports organisations globally due to its opacity and the appearance its matt finish lends to garments decorated or cutomised with this product.  

HEXIS WITH NEW CAST VINYLS AT VISCOM IN PARIS
At the recent VISCOM sign show in Paris Hexis previewed two new cast vinyl series for car wrapping applications. The new HX30000 series saw the addition of two Variochrome versions that were presented with demos on an Aston Martin DBRS9 GT3 racecar.

X-BOARD FOR CHILDREN’S FURNITURE
Clever Little Monkey, a South African manufacturer of children’s furniture, has begun to incorporate X-Board into their sustainable furniture creations. X-Board was used to create a cot, children’s play table and chairs, bookshelf and a decorative ‘tree’ for the bedroom or playroom. The furniture was showcased in the Clever Little Monkey booth at the Homemakers expo that was recently held in Cape Town.
