WRAP2THEMAX DESIGN COMPETITION WINNING ENTRY FOR MARCH 2010
The winner of the March round of the Wrap2theMax design competition is local designer Annemarie Burger. Her design for Score 10 stood out from the field in its uniqueness, creativity and concept, which resonated against the imminent 2010 World Cup. 

FIRST FESPA GLOBAL SUMMIT A SUCCESS
The first FESPA Global Summit, which took place from March 25-26, 2010 in Miami, called for stronger business leadership and a strategic commitment to innovation for print service providers to grow again out of the downturn. The event was designed to provide attendees with an open environment in which to tackle the challenges affecting the wide format printing industry, consistent with FESPA's commitment to sharing examples of best practice across the global wide format printing community. 

CLAUDE NEON SHOWS ITS SUPPORT FOR 2010 AND BAFANA BAFANA
Claude Neon Limited has made a commitment to support South Africa, the 2010 Soccer World Cup and our team BAFANA BAFANA. In an effort to encourage enthusiasm towards the event, the company has decorated their building with exciting signs and will be celebrating on the roof every Friday, from 12h00 to 12h30, until the tournament begins. The official roof-wetting took place on Friday, 16 April, providing passing travellers with a festive spectacle that was infectious.  

NEON AND GRAPHIC SUPPLIES PROUDLY INTRODUCES THE CHANNEL LETTER FACTORY

GREAT BUZZ ABOUT COKE BUSES
Tractor Outdoor in association with Media Shop JHB and Coca Cola South Africa have unleashed the largest bus campaign to date across the Cape Town CBD. Eighteen Golden Arrow buses that specifically service the Cape Town CBD and Green Point Stadium were selected and branded in Coca Cola’s iconic ‘Open Happiness’ livery.

The new 3M lighting products can be used together with 3M’s flexible substrates, translucent graphics films, inks and graphic protection for backlit sign solutions with maximum design versatility.  

MACTAC INTRODUCES PERMAFLEX PF6400 FOR FLOOR GRAPHICS
MACtac Graphic Products, with distribution in South Africa through Synchron, has expanded its line of PERMACOLOR overlaminates with the addition of PERMACOLOR PermaFlex PF6400. Not only does the product protect and enhance printed floor graphics but it is also affordable, enabling printers to produce high-impact floor graphics at a very attractive price.

NEW 3M FILM FOR EASY APPLY WALL GRAPHICS
3M has unveiled a 6-mil 3M Wall Decorating Film IJ86E designed for interior wall graphics using UV piezo inkjet printing and UV screen printing. This film has a special adhesive technology that provides excellent adhesion but still allows sliding and repositioning of the graphic. The film also features innovative air release channels in the adhesive allowing fast and easy bubble-free graphic installation.  

FUJIFILM LAUNCHES WONDERTACK FILM – NO NEED FOR ADHESIVE
Fujifilm has launched WonderTack, a solvent printable, white satin gloss polypropylene film, which adheres to smooth, flat surfaces without the use of adhesive. This cost-effective, innovative solution is the latest addition to Fujifilm’s euromedia range of flexible media for large format printing.

CREATIVE DISPLAY TILES SELECTED FOR SUPERIOR COLOUR, FLEXIBILITY AND GREEN FACTOR
Millions of fans of The Colbert Report – the US’s award-winning series on Comedy Central – received a visual treat on the 4th January season premiere, when Stephen Colbert introduced the redesign of his new Red, White & Blue set featuring Christie® MicroTiles™. The breakthrough modular display technology debuted in a bolder-than-HiDef-way for the Comedy Central’s most daring pundit.  

CALVIN KLEIN LONDON TOUCHSCREEN CAMPAIGN DRAWS CROWD
SA Digiadvans completed a major interactive touchscreen campaign in the heart of London for Calvin Klein. If only all digital campaigns could get crowds of 18 – 30 women paying attention there’d surely be no need for DPAA, OMAC or OVAB or any other organisation to sell the merits of the medium.  

PRIMEVIEW INTRODUCES NEW LINE OF OPEN FRAME LCD MONITORS
This week Primeview, a maker of advanced display solutions, introduced a new 1.2m (46-inch), open frame LCD monitor. The new LCD product has a DID panel that can be installed in both portrait and landscape mode without altering the quality of the picture. These monitors are all housed in professional metal frames ready to be designed in custom applications, the company says. The new OPF line is available in six different sizes from 81cm to 2m (32 to 82 inches).  

REAR WINDOW MEDIA BRINGS DIGITAL BILLBOARDS TO CONSUMER VEHICLES

EYEONAFRICA STOPS TO REFUEL AT SIGN-A-RAMA MIDRAND
Practical Publishing had the pleasure of meeting two intrepid cyclists at Sign-a-Rama Midrand on 9 April. Ian Mowbray-Williams and Alan Wells left London on 1 June 2009 and have cycled an epic journey through Europe and the whole of Africa to reach their final destination of Cape Town, in time for the start of the World Cup, a trip of some 12000 miles.

AVERY GRAPHICS SUPPORTS CHARITY ARTS & CRAFTS WITH VINYL DONATION
Avery Dennison recently donated 35 rolls of vinyl to Sparrow Rainbow Village – AIDS Hospice and Children’s home in Roodepoort, Johannesburg. The Sparrow Village was the first of its kind in South Africa and has made great inroads in taking care of our AIDS orphans. These rolls of vinyl will be used for the AIDS orphans’ arts and crafts projects. It will also be utilised for their work creation programme.Avery is committed to making a difference wherever possible.

ENTIRE SUBURB BECOMES OUTDOOR ART GALLERY USING HP DESIGNJET L65500 PRINTER
Look Print, one of Australia's large-format digital printing companies, used HP large format solutions to transform the entire neighbourhood of Glebe, Sydney into an outdoor art gallery. The unique exhibition, titled ‘150 Locals,’ showcased 150 life-size photographic portraits of Glebe's vibrant community members in various locations, including outdoor public spaces, cafes and retail outlets.

Pedestrians in Germany who need to cross tram lines or rail crossings can be safer, thanks to an innovative new warning sign developed by German manufacturer, probitron. Based in Bielefeld in north-west Germany, probitron specialise in the production of mechanical and electronic systems and services for the road safety industry.
